After meeting a westbound at the siding of Crest, this eastbound on the move again between Crest and Wiggins. The siding of Crest itself is somewhat isolated and not easily accessible. Whereas the other sidings on the Brush Sub are visible from I-76. While most of this Q-Train consists of double stack containers, if you look toward the end, you'll notice a handful of auto racks and a few general manifest cars.

This particular Q-Train that BNSF runs on the Brush Sub is something of a "potpourri" train. The makeup of the train is one of the more interesting ones I've seen. Box cars, covered hoppers, open hoppers, tank cars, centerbeam flats, TOFCs, and COFCs...all found on the same train! Most of the time, intermodal is kept separate from other manifest traffic. Not the case on this Alliance, TX-bound train.

Evidence of some of the maintenance that BNSF has sunk in to the Brush Sub is visible lying alongside the right-of-way in this shot. Piles of old wood ties and tie plates are waiting to be picked up by a scrap train at Wiggins.

A westbound coal load approaches a clear signal at the east end of Wiggins in some nice early morning light. The crossing gate broke off the arm at the grade crossing at East Wiggins, so this train is approaching the crossing very slowly in order to ensure no cars are on (or attempt to go over) the crossing.

At the siding of Wiggins (in the town of Wiggins, CO), a westbound coal load (in the siding) meets an eastbound manifest (on the main). As is common in so many plains towns, agricultural buildings can be found alongside the tracks. BNSF 5746 (leading the coal load) is a pre-production ES44AC; one of the first such units built. It was actually released prior to the introduction of BNSF's New Image scheme, first seen in 2005.

Two ES44AC's in the New Image scheme lead an eastbound coal empty stopped on the siding at Wiggins. A westbound coal load has an H2 SD70MAC flying back on the main track. After the coal load clears, BNSF 6069 will get a clear signal to continue east.

BNSF's Brush Sub dispatchers sets up a very well-timed meet as a coal empty (BNSF 6069) pulls toward the east end of the siding as a coal load (BNSF 9857) starts to accelerate on a clear signal on the main.
