While waiting for a UP special to depart Burnham, I got a few detail shots from an old DRGW flat car whose fate is quite likely a cutting torch.

A close up look at the old steam crane that was originally of Denver & Salt Lake heritage! The crane will be temporarily stored at the Forney Museum, but rumor has it that it will ultimately be moved up to Granby and placed at the Moffat Museum there.

A string of class Rio Grande equipment, including DRGW GP30 #3006, DRGW caboose #01447, and a DRGW (original D&SL) steam crane rolls north toward the north end of Burnham. The Denver skyline...particularly the "cash register building"...seemed like a very fitting background.

Old Building #2 at Burnham now sits quiet and empty. It used to be served by a transfer table in the pit in the foreground. However, the transfer table was auctioned off along with the rest of the equipment at Burnham after it was closed.

One piece of equipment that apparently was not auctioned off when Burnham was closed is this overhead crane that moves across elevated rails.

Hard to believe that it has already been two years since Burnham closed it doors for good. Virtually all the rail has been removed at this point in 2018. In addition, a lot of asbestos removal has taken place. The turntable and the transfer table have both be auctioned off. No doubt it won't be much longer that the buildings themselves will come down. In a few more years, this will probably be a but of condos!

At the north end of Burnham, this UP special is pulling out of the yard (what is left of it) and headed back to the main track at Walnut Street.

Just before 4:20pm on February 17, 2018, DRGW 3006 was the last engine to leave the property of Burnham! Seems entirely appropriate that a Rio Grande GP30 would be the final unit to leave the close yard.

This old Rio Grande steam crane rolls slowly out of Burnham as a special moves toward Walnut street and Main 2. The crane will be temporarily kept at the Forney Museum until it can be moved to Granby!

At least three pieces of old Rio Grande equipment will be salvaged from Burnham. The rest may be torched and scrapped, but DRGW 3006, DRGW 01447, and this Steam Crane will all find homes and will be preserved for the future!

For the first time in two decades, DRGW 3006 is rolling across grade crossing as a UP special pulls it out of Burnham. Here, the unit is rolling across Shoshone Street, not too far from the Auraria Campus.
