The Colorado Railroad Museum has managed to preserve a lot of classic equipment, including a great collection of Rio Grande equipment. Sitting around the turntable is an SD40T-2 (DRGW 5401) and a GP30 (DRGW 3011).

The Colorado Railroad Museum got DRGW 3011, a GP30, from UP several decades ago. The unit has been sitting on the east side of the roadhouse for most of that time. However, just this summer, it was moved to a new location. Rumor has it that restoration of the unit might be starting soon!

The engineer's side of DRGW 3011 has been slightly more exposed to the elements than the conductor's side at the Colorado Railroad Museum. Consequently, the colors have faded and the rust is far more apparent on the engineer's side of the old gal.

A top-down look at the cab of DRGW 5401 as it rests in its forever home at the Colorado Railroad Museum.

Almost immediately after the Colorado Railroad Museum moved DRGW 5401 into the museum facility, it's number boards were put back in with the correct numbers and its MARS and class lights were fully restored.

If you look inside the cab of DRGW 5401, you'll note that there is still a sticker at the back indicating the last number it had when it was in active service on UP's roster: UP 9871.

This view of the front of DRGW 5401 at the Colorado Railroad Museum really caught my eye. Not only does the spartan cab of the Tunnel Motor look fantastic, but see the Rio Grande fly letters to the right on a steam tender and to the left on GP30 DRGW 3011 is just great!

A nice overview of the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden. As you can see, there aren't many tracks will space available for future donations. The track that wraps around the outside is used for active steam and "Galloping Goose" runs periodically throughout the year.
