The crew on the unit was in constant contact with the crew at the end end. The equipment being donated to the Railroading Heritage of Midwest America museum is all head of UP 8198. A decade ago, patched Espee AC4400CWs were still fairly common. However, over the years, UP has managed to repaint all but three of these units in to full UP yellow. I just happened to coincidentally come across this scarlet and gray unit, serving as a mid-train DPU on an eastbound grain train. This unit was originally SP 264. Here, you can see about ten or so cars stopped on the shoulders of the Lincoln Highway, parallel to a stopped UP 5716 and train. They got stopped at a red signal, but are just about to get a clear (green) signal to continue east. This would be as far east as I was able to chase the train.
