While waiting for UP 4014 to show up in Limon, I thought I'd take advantage of the extra time and get a few additional shots of SSRX 1503 and the trio of former Utah Railways MK50-3s waiting for transport their next owners now that the KYLE has sold them.

UP 4014 climbs the (roughly) 1.3% grade west here at Cedar Point. This is one of the steepest climbs along the Limon Subdivision, and UP 4014 is letting a bit of smoke loose in response to the increased grade.

UP 4014 slowly rounds the curve at Cedar Point, about 12 miles west of Limon. The siding of Cedar Point is just under 5,000 feet long, and is now a single ended track. The east switch has been completely removed, and it is now a 5,000 foot stub track, with access available only at the west end.

UP's Big Boy rounds the curve at Cedar Point along the 5,000 stub-end siding. Once upon a time, there was actually a wye here at Cedar Point. I don't know the exactly history, but I assume helpers might have once cut off here at Cedar Point after helping up the grade. Feel free to comment if you know the history!

UP 4014 is crossing over West Bijou Creek on the west side of Byers, CO. Half of this trestle was rebuilt about 15 years ago. UP 4014 is over the rebuilt section right now, with the older trestle still visible further to the east beneath the passenger cars.

The traffic at Strasburg, CO, the final maintenance stop for UP 4014 today, was absolutely insane! As a result, I skipped Strasburg and went straight to the Kiowa Creek trestle. The train is descending a slight grade, headed for the trestle.

I wish the sun had broken through the clouds for this shot of UP 4014 crossing over Kiowa Creek between Byers and Strasburg. However, even in the shot of the train comes across the bridge looks mighty fine. A great way to wrap up the day.

One last roster shot of UP 4014 as it continues west on the Limon Sub toward Denver. The train will stay at North Yard tonight, and an employees-only showing of the Big Boy will take place tomorrow. On Wednesday, it will return to Cheyenne, and be put to bed in the roundhouse, likely for the rest of 2026. Hopefully, it'll be back on the rails in 2027.
