In the small town of Bennett, CO, UP's Limon Local charges east onto the Colorado plains. The control tower you see in the distance is not that of Denver Internal Airport, but rather Colorado Air and Space Port, a public airport located less than 9 miles southeast of DIA. The plane almost directly above the control tower is landing at DIA.

Just east of the east switch of Mesa, UP's Limon Local is leaving CTC behind and has entered into Track Warrant territory. They have a track warrant out to near Deer Trail, CO. That warrant will not get them all the way to Limon. The reason for the warrant only going that far is due to the fact they are following an eastbound coal load which has only made it as far east as Deer Trail.

Okay, it is time to depart! UP 1837, a snoot-nose SD40-2, puts on a bit of an exhaust show as the engineer throttle up to start pulling the (roughly) 40 car Limon Local eastbound on Main 1 toward a green signal. UP 6168 was delivered as SP 139 in April 1995. I was a sophomore in high school at the time, and remember seeing those new scarlet and gray units sometimes when I was getting lunch.

This is a very interesting picture! While the conductor on the Limon Local works to tie on a FRED (or End of Train device) to what will become the last car of the local, four random guys are walking between yard tracks! They are carrying backpacks, stepladders, and bottles of water. Were they just in the midst of a little graffiti work? I cannot say for sure, but it was quite odd to see! They continued walking west, eventually leaving UP property.
