Even with the reduction in the demand for coal, coal trains still dominate the Joint Line. So, it is nice to come across a non-coal train! Such is the case with this baretable intermodal train. You'd typically think of a string of empty well cars when referring to a baretable. But in this case, all of the trailers and containers on this train are empty. Just be repositioned to San Bernardino, CA.

An ES44DC and an ES44C4 lead a southbound intermodal train over West Plum Parkway in Castle Rock alongside I-25. This scene changed fairly significantly in 2011 when West Plum Parkway was actually built. Prior to that, there was no bridge (for the tracks) in this scene.

BNSF 7654 and train are currently stopped on Main 1 in the small town of Sedalia, CO on the Joint Line. The train lost communication with the ETD (End of Train Device, sometimes referred to as a FRED). Consequently, the crew cannot tell if the air brakes on the train are working properly as they cannot see the amount of air in the brake line at the end of the train. After 45 minutes or so, the problem would be worked out, and the train would continue.

A pair of SD40-2s are switch in the yard as BNSF's Chicago to Denver Z-train slowly rolls through the yard on the main track. There is also a coal load on Coal 1 and a grain train on Coal 2, both waiting for crews so they can head south. These three tracks (the main and the two coal tracks) are all CTC right now, controlled by the Brush Sub Dispatcher. All other tracks are yard tracks, and under the jurisdiction of the 31st Street Yardmaster.
