A look at the engineers side of the Katy Heritage Unit (UP 1988). The Katy includes aspects of both the railroads paint schemes, including maroon/red the transitions using stripes the way the green and yellow scheme did. One possible scheme for this engine was going to be red and green, but a Christmas Tree look didn't fly!

The Katy rests in the dark but shows off her stuff with a reflection of a flash. The Katy is the favorite Heritage Unit of many fans, perhaps because of its relative simplicity in design and powerful color.

A detailed shot of the conductors side of the cab on UP 1988. The "M-K-T" logo shows on the side of the nose. I like the red and maroon stripes, representing the last green and yellow scheme from the 1980's.

One of the three existing UP Heritage Units (at the time of this photo) made it to Denver for the first time! UP 1988, the MKT "Katy" Heritage Unit, came in on the MSIDV-25.
