The unit is a variant of the Charger series of locomotives produced by Siemens, similar to the ALC-42s that Amtrak is currently receiving. VIA rail, the Canadian counterpart to Amtrak, ordered 32 of these trainsets in December 2018, which are slowly being delivered.
