UP changed their paint scheme (for the first time in quite some time) after their acquired Chicago and Northwestern by adding a slight lightning bolt to the red stripe near the top of the unit. This C44-9W was originally CNW 8716, delivered in May 1994. After being taken over by UP, the unit was repainted on April 30, 2001...the new lightning bolt scheme applied.
