Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado has a rather interesting way to operate. Because there is so much switches that the train does as it makes its way along the line, the engineer rides in the engine alone. The conductor parallels the train in a pickup truck! This way, the conductor can drive to any switches that need to be thrown, rather than having to walk along the train. You can see the pickup on the highway, driving alongside the train as it heads toward Holyoke, CO for its next switch job.
