BNSF 2026 and train pass by some colorful bushes on the approach to Palmer Lake on Main 1. The track to the right used to be used to cut off manned helpers that were ahead of cabooses on coal load. It was not uncommon to put the manned helpers ahead of the caboose to avoid the helper pushing on the (lighter) caboose. At Palmer Lake, when cutting off, this track was needed so the manned helpers could run around the caboose and reattach it.
