This tunnel was daylight decades ago, but the other tunnels were never renumbered. You can see the east portal of Tunnel 10 ahead, the next tunnel the Zephyr will actually pass through. This relatively short tunnel is the last tunnel from which a view of the plains is possible from both ends of the tunnel. In fact, prior to this train snaking its way along South Boulder Creek through Tunnel 29, the last such train was in June 2017! The train is long enough that it is poking out the west end of the siding. The westbound Zephyr is not far off. Since the military doesn't fit between switches at Cliff, it'll be leaving just as soon as the Zephyr is clear of the east switch. The crew on this train had to do some work at Bond and they are starting to run short on their hours of service. DS-378 has informed them they will be recrewed at Rocky, about 15 rail miles ahead. The train is also in-and-out of the short Tunnel 21, and the back half is still in Tunnel 23 in the heart of the Tunnel District. The train crosses one of dozens of fills in place to accommodate the rails here in the Colorado Rockies. Off in the distance, you can see the dam the creates Gross Reservoir. Indeed, the dam is currently undergoing a project to raise its height by 131 feet. If you look closely, you can see some climbing cranes on the scene, being used in the construction. Rumor has it the State of Colorado hopes to expand rail service, potentially reinstituting some depots in small mountain towns such as Pinecliff.
