Construction is continuing like there is no tomorrow along the tracks just north (geographically west) of the siding of Broomfield. The southbound HLAUDEN (Laurel, MT to Denver, CO) has a colorful consist! It'll enter the siding at Broomfield to meet a loaded Valmont train.

With a track warrant all the way from south siding switch of Broomfield to MP 72 in Fort Collins, the Denver-Laurel freight heads west into the setting sun at Burns Junction. The caboose (now referred to as a "shoving platform") sits on the Lafayette Industrial Lead.

On a day that was almost entirely overcast, the sun breaks through near the end of the day as the Denver to Laurel manifest comes around on the main track at Broomfield.

Man, this train is so close to having three Warbonnets on the point, and yet so far away! The daily Denver to Laurel manifest has a C40-8W on the point followed by a pair of SD75Ms. Not long ago, both of those SD75Ms were wearing a Warbonnet scheme. The DENLAU just met the PASSAG (Pasco, WA to Saginaw, TX) at Broomfield and is now proceeding north at dusk.

Talk about something you don't everyday! DC power running on a coal load...not only DC power, but some very nicely painted DC power at that. The coal load is headed for the Valmont power plant in Boulder.

They say you shouldn't mess with perfection and many railfans out there think BNSF got it right the first time! The first official paint scheme for BNSF after the 1995 merger was the Heritage scheme (now called the Heritage 1, or H1 scheme). You know, in a lot of ways, I think these railfans might just know what they are talking about!

A pair of Dash-9s, one wearing a very nice H1 scheme, lead up the daily HLAUDEN that runs from Laurel, MT to Denver, CO. In the distance, Longs Peak is sticking up above the surrounding clouds.

Clouds cling to the mountains along the Front Range as BNSF's daily Laurel-Denver manifest means south on the main line at Broomfield. It just met its counterpart (the Denver-Laurel); you can still see the DENLAU on the siding in the distance.

You just can't beat a clear, sunny day with blue skies right after a major snow storm! Freshly fallen snow (no, I won't break into song) covers the ground as the Denver-Laurel slowly moves through the siding at Broomfield.

Next to Rio Grande's fly letters, I think the Warbonnet scheme is about the best one out there! Here, an SD75M passes the station sign of Broomfield, the third of three units headed for Laurel, MT.

A pair of BNSF C44-9Ws and a KCS AC4400CW make up the power on this days Denver to Laurel manifest. On this day, the train got a track warrant from Denver all the way to Boulder. This is rather rare as nearly every train has to at least stop in Broomfield to throw a switch!

A standard cab GE unit straight out of the 1980's! GE's C40-8 competed with EMD's SD60s about 25 years ago. Here, a CSX-painted C40-8 helps out the HLAUDEN as it prepares to depart the Broomfield siding south toward Denver.

On the siding at Broomfield, the crew of this HLAUDEN (Laurel, MT to Denver, CO) is working to reassemble the train. The train is over 7,000 feet long and does not fit in the siding at Broomfield without cutting Nickel Street. Now that both trains it was meeting have passed, its time to rebuild and head to town.
