Construction is continuing like there is no tomorrow along the tracks just north (geographically west) of the siding of Broomfield. The southbound HLAUDEN (Laurel, MT to Denver, CO) has a colorful consist! It'll enter the siding at Broomfield to meet a loaded Valmont train.

This double stack (with a few auto racks thrown on the front) train left Tacoma, WA a week before this picture was taken. New Years Eve and New Years Day slowed all trains down a bit! The QTACDEN always runs with auto racks up front and double stack in the back. Of course a big, large cloud set over the area about 20 seconds before I snapped this shot!

Time for a break! The Valmont coal train is going to be dropping off its cars at the power plant and siding in Boulder. As a result, the Tacoma-Denver freight will be stopped at 63rd Street for about two hours to wait for the work to be completed.

Pulling across 63rd Street in Boulder, the northbound Valmont coal load prepares to spot about half the train at the power plant. The second half of the cars will be spotted on the Boulder siding until they are needed for unloading.

The Valmont coal load makes a reverse move away from the camera to spot a string of cars at the power plant, noted to the left in this shot. Despite the somewhat rural look, this is actually in the middle of Boulder!

A few afternoon clouds spill over on the Continental Divide as the Valmont coal load works on spotting cars at the power plant in Boulder. Interestingly, the third unit on the train in a C44-9W, not a unit with AC traction motors! Not too common these days.

A cloud is just about to set in and kill the nice evening light here. Fortunately, a bit of light broke through the clouds on the head end of this westbound coal empty. The red castle in the distance is a landmark in the city of Westminster. Today, it the campus for the Bellevue Christian school.

The sun is hiding behind a cloud, but the light reflects off the rails in Barbara's Gulch as a coal load makes its way east out of Rocky.

An SD75M (which unfortunately is no longer wearing the Warbonnet scheme) leads the westbound Beer Run toward the upper yard at Coors. The tracks here run along 44th Avenue and are about to pass underneath Highway 52.

Approaching the end of the line, the Beer Run throttles up to make the final climb into the upper yard at Coors. A few cars drive along on 44th Avenue in the distance.
