Especially considering this paint scheme will be disappearing in the coming years with Kansas City Southern and Canadian Pacific merging to form CPKC. No crew is aboard and, as of this shot, no crew had yet been called to come and get on the train to free up the main track. The local sometime heads out into the Utah Desert as far as Cisco, but on this Tuesday, its switching duties won't take it further then Mack, CO. Why? It was the very first Rio Grande unit (GP40-2 or otherwise) to be patched and added to UP's roster. UP 5234 started life as DRGW 3122. In 1997, the unit was given a patch and renumbered to UP 5245. Here, ten years later, the unit still retains the same number and leads the Landmark Local west through Fruita on its way to Mack for some switching.
