UP is deadheading passenger equipment from Council Bluffs, IA west. The train has a power car and eleven passenger cars. It is currently stopped in the siding at Brighton, waiting for maintenance to clear up at Sand Creek. Despite being a deadhead move, a pair of pristine SD70Ms lead the way.

At the Vestas plant in Brighton, a trainload of hubs (to which the blades attach) and nacelles (which generate the electricity) are ready to be picked up by Union Pacific. However, that will not be happening on this particular day.

UP's MNYGR, manifest from North Yard, CO to Green River, WY is hustling along at track speed as it approaches an intermediate in advance of Brighton, where it will take the siding to meet a southbound. If you look in the distance on the left side of the shot, you can just see the Denver skyline!

I have wanted to try to get a shot at this location for quite a long time, and was finally able to make it happen. UP 9795 and train are coming off the Greeley Sub, wrapping around the north leg of a wye that leads to the Belt Industrial Lead. You can see the inbound main for the 36th Street Yard in the distance.

After getting stuck north of Hazeltine for a short time to allow a power move onto a train on the siding at Hazeltine, UP 9795 gets to continue south toward North Yard. A few years ago, UP extended the track from the siding at Hazeltine south to the auto facility at Rolla, effectively creating a long switching lead for Rolla. Previously, the Rolla job would often have to use the main.

The siding of Hazeltine is often plugged with autoracks that have been switched at Rolla, UP's auto facility just south of Hazeltine. 112th Avenue crosses the siding near the north end, which means that autoracks tied down frequently need to be broken up across 112th to allow traffic to cross. You can see that situation here. UP 8139 will soon put this train together so it can depart south.

Essentially all of the general manifest traffic that rolls between Denver, CO and points west (on Union Pacific) is in this shot! UP has a daily train that runs west from Denver to Green River, WY (the train on the left), and a counterpart that comes to Denver from Green River, WY (the train on the right). Since UP stopped running general manifest trains west of Grand Junction, CO, cars running between Denver and Salt Lake City are also on these trains.
