After being purchased by Genessee and Wyoming, and after the collapse of coal on Soldier Summit (for Utah Railway), the MK50-3s were transferred to the KYLE railroad. They have a very heavy slope on the outsides of the nose. Here, UTAH 5006 is waiting for UP to pick it up (and two of its sister units) to head to Nebraska and their next owner. Utah Railway had six of these MK units (originally MK5000C, later MK50-3). They were eventually transferred to the KYLE railroad, but they were never repainted. After dropping off 40 cars for the KYLE, the local will pick up the string of tank cars here that the KYLE left for the local. The KYLE was formed in 1982 by the Willis B Kyle Organization after the fall of the Rock Island. The railroad has gone through several owners over the years, and since 2012, it has been owned by the Genesee & Wyoming. The railroad operate roughly 510 miles of track, with 420 miles in Kansas, and the 90 or so remaining miles in eastern Colorado. US-24 connects Limon and Colorado Springs. Limon is also the location where the UP interchanges traffic with the KYLE railroad. The KYLE runs on the former Rock Island east out of Limon.
