I know it is only a matter of time before these signals at the west end of Soldier Summit are replaced. Probably not much time at that! That will be a sad day as they are such staples of this location. UR 5005 leads three sister MK50-3s and an SD50 down Main 2.

At the summit of Soldier Summit, this eastbound UP coal empty is on the move on Main 2. The train will descent the eastern slope of Soldier Summit and head for CV Spur where it can load at the Savage Loadout.

651 miles west of Denver (via Tennessee Pass and the Joint Line) you can find Soldier Summit. This Utah Railway coal load (with leased UP power) is cresting the summit right around 7,500 feet above sea level.

After stopping at the west end of Soldier Summit to be crossed over from main two to main one, this eastbound coal empty is starting to accelerate. The train is actually a Utah Railway coal train, using leased UP power on the point.

A westbound until coil train is traversing Soldier Summit. The train has four C44-9CW's (all four in Heritage-II paint), and all four in "elephant style", even though the train was separating the first two from the last two.

This Utah Railway coal load has a green signal at the west end of Soldier Summit. The train will move into heavy dynamics for the descent down the west slope of Soldier Summit.

My personal favorite Utah Railway power would probably be the SD40's used between 1991 and early 2001. Here, UR 9005 and three fellow SD40's lead a westbound coal train over the top of Soldier Summit.
