While I do not personally care for the short days of winter, I do like the quality of light generated by the low sun in the morning and the evening. This southbound Cheyenne-Denver manifest, with power representing three different decades, heads south on the main at Broomfield.

In the last few years, Union Pacific retired some of its older power such as C40-8's and SD60's. Frequently when old power is retired by a Class 1, it either winds up on a smaller railroad, or it is picked up by a leasing company. Such is the case here. This SD60 was picked up by National Railway Equipment Leasing and is currently putting in hours on BNSF.

Longs Peak stands tall in glorious December morning light as a southbound manifest rolls down the main at Broomfield. The train just received a track warrant between the north and south ends of Broomfield. It will hold the main to meet two northbound coal empties.

A southbound manifest is holding short of the Nickel Street grade crossing on the main track in the distance. It is waiting for the rail train rolling down the siding to the right. The rail train just released its warrant. This will allow the manifest to copy a new warrant from the dispatcher to proceed from the south siding switch of Broomfield all the way in to town.

Got sulfur? If not, this train is for you! The "stinky slinky" carries molten sulfur from Bonneville, WY to Galveston, TX. After meeting two northbounds, and now with a fresh warrant, the train is continuing on toward Denver for a crew change.

The DENTAC (Denver, CO to Tacoma, WA) is moving north at track speed on the main track as the Buck Local patiently waits in the siding. After reassembling their train on the main track, the local pulled into the clear to wait for the train to pass. After it cleared MP 16, the local got a warrant and backed out onto the main and proceeded into town.
