Clouds have really started move in this afternoon as this BNSF's Denver-Laurel heads north of Longs Peaks toward the town of Berthoud (and points beyond). The train is making good time, and shouldn't have to stop again until reaching BNSF's North Yard in Fort Collins. There, it will drop some cars for the Great Western Railways, and likely pick up others.

I have no problem admitting that the SD40-2 (and its variants...such as the SD40T-2, of course!) is my favorite engine of all time. I doubt that will every change. So, when there is a train (even if it is a local) that is running with a solid set of SD40-2s, it makes me happy! The SD40-2 is about 40 years old now and it isn't going to be around forever.

2014 or 1994? This southbound local has a trio of SD40-2s for power. The lead unit has the "white face" that Burlington Northern developed to try to increase visibility to oncoming trains. You may recall that they also developed an "orange face" as well that was applied to some GP50s. So if you use your imagination, maybe that second BNSF SD40-2 is just an orange face GP50!
