Six of the seven cars on this passenger special wear a paint scheme that represents the Great Northern Railroad. The one "misfit" is the sixth car, which has a Frisco-inspired paint scheme. The train is rolling north toward the small town of Berthoud.

After meeting two southbounds at Longs Peak, this special passenger train is now on the move again on the south edge of Berthoud, CO. Notice the three cars headed the same direction as the train to the left...and three are fellow railfans, giving chase to this unique move.

I have no problem admitting that the SD40-2 (and its variants...such as the SD40T-2, of course!) is my favorite engine of all time. I doubt that will every change. So, when there is a train (even if it is a local) that is running with a solid set of SD40-2s, it makes me happy! The SD40-2 is about 40 years old now and it isn't going to be around forever.

2014 or 1994? This southbound local has a trio of SD40-2s for power. The lead unit has the "white face" that Burlington Northern developed to try to increase visibility to oncoming trains. You may recall that they also developed an "orange face" as well that was applied to some GP50s. So if you use your imagination, maybe that second BNSF SD40-2 is just an orange face GP50!
