The first leg of the day's journey is nearly complete as the Front Range Explorer, a specially chartered train, rolls north past the siding of Speer toward Cheyenne. There, a BNSF Pilot will board the train for the continued trip north. The train will run up the Orin Subdivision through the Powder River Basin and ultimately tie up in Gillette, WY for the night. These passengers have been sitting on the open vestibule for most of the trip from Denver up to Cheyenne. This siding is relatively short and seldomly used. In the distance, you can see tracks on a bridge. This is UP's Greeley Sub, which the BNSF Front Range Sub crosses underneath.
