DRGW 5401 is almost through the gates of the Colorado Railroad Museum. Took the opportunity to grab a shot of a "Rough Road" sign that the City of Golden put up 5 minutes before I took this picture. Moving a near 200-ton engine isn't exactly kind to an asphalt road. Drivers along 44th Avenue will experience some bumps for a couple of days.

With the panel track secure and a tractor hooked up to the front of DRGW 5401, the nearly 200-ton diesel-electric engine is slowly rolled north across 44th Avenue. At this point, two Hulcher Service cranes are still support the back end of the unit off the ground. Once the back end is over the panel track, they will lower it to the rails.

Two tractors work together to carry a stretch of panel track down 44th Avenue, making the turn in to the Colorado Railroad Museum. These four sections of panel track will be laid across the road and across the existing track at the entrance of the museum (which is perpendicular to this track) in order to roll DRGW 5401 on to the property. The front coupler of the Tunnel Motor is just barely visible at the right of the frame.

DRGW 5401 (patched as UP 9871) is slowly being moved off 44th Avenue to the south, in to a dirt parking lot. Once this move is complete, crews will retrieve the four sections of panel track that were used earlier to cross the Farmers Canal. The panel track will be laid across 44th Avenue and in to the Colorado Railroad Museum property.
