UP has a few of them available in storage at Burnham (in Denver). The units tend to be older and most have been sitting in Burnham for at least a year. There are many C40-8Ws here and there is a string of SD90MACs in the distance. There units are the true 6000 HP units developed in the late 1990's. Who knows if these units will ever be reactivated, or if they perished soon after the inception, similar to the U50 about thirty years ago. Roughly a decade later finds 20 of these 21 units in storage, not being used. The 21st unit has been returned to EMD for testing purposes. The Ski Train has a couple of tracks reserved at Burnham just for them. The train is broken up over two or three tracks and the power is kept on yet another track.
