Not only does the spartan cab of the Tunnel Motor look fantastic, but see the Rio Grande fly letters to the right on a steam tender and to the left on GP30 DRGW 3011 is just great! The unit has been sitting on the east side of the roadhouse for most of that time. However, just this summer, it was moved to a new location. When it was moved, it had been patched and held a UP number. The folks at the museum worked quickly and did a fantastic job restoring the number on the engineer's side of the cab, as well as the number boards! After this, the unit moved behind trees that obscured the view, so it was time to call it quits and head for home. A great day and a lot of fun to witness a very rare move. In addition, the ditch lights will be removed and the gyralight will be reinstalled in the nose! The Tunnel Motor is reaching the north end of the (temporary) panel track, and the Hulcher Service cranes are moving in to position to lift the unit up once more in order to spot it on the museum track. This essentially meant that the unit was not capable of leading a consist and could only be used as a trailing unit. While it certainly needs some work, the classic GP30 cab looks mighty fine from the side. Good to know that one of these will be preserved. It was built in May 1962 and worked until 1994, six years after the DRGW/Espee merger. It is now 52 years old and sits quietly next to the roundhouse at the Colorado Railroad Museum.
