The westbound Phippsburg Local crosses a private grade crossing on the main at Crater. This siding is only 5,160 feet long, and probably has not actually had a meet at it in many years, if not decades. The horn that just echoed through the canyon will likely be the only one heard for at least the next 24-48 hours.

Just above the loops at Crater, this westbound coal empty is making its way toward the Crater siding. It is a light Sunday on the Craig branch and this train will have no meets at Crater, Volcano, or Toponas. A clear shot into Phippsburg.

The Crater Loops are an amazing engineering feat. In order to rapidly gain elevation, the Crater Loops were constructed to double back several times. In this shot, one coal train is making its way through the loops.

After descending through Volcano (so named because the tracks are built around the rim of a dormant volcano), this train is approaching the Crater loops.
