Based on the time of day, you might expect that this is Amtrak #5, the westbound Zephyr. However, it is actually the eastbound Zephyr #6, running 14 hours late.

Modern modelers rejoice! You can now take your DRGW Heritage Unit and your Zephyr train set and run them together!! UP 1989 sits on the point of the Zephyr at Union Station. The second P42 was not loading and UP 1989 was added in Salt Lake City to help out. The train would leave Union Station about 20 minutes later, with UP 1989 still on the point for the trip to Chicago.

UP 844 and the Frontier Days trains were scheduled to depart Denver at 1:00pm and man did they nail that departure time! A pretty descent crowd gathered at Union Station to watch the train head north.

Alright, this is what I'm talking about! Three passenger trains at Union Station. Well...not quite. The P42 on the far left side of the picture is sitting alone on a stub track. It is used as a backup unit, should it be needed. The focus of the picture is the eastbound California Zephyr. On the right side of the picture is Disney's A Christmas Carol Tour Train, preparing to depart for Salt Lake City.

After three very full days of visitors, Disney's Tour Train for the new movie A Christmas Carol (coming out in November 2009) is packing up its equipment. A few hours later (after dark, as luck would have it), the train departed for Salt Lake City, UT.

A roster shot of AMTK 71, one of the two P42s being used on Disney's A Christmas Carol Tour Train. Unfortunately, there was no way for me to get any closer to the train than this, so the fences protecting the Light Rail tracks are unfortunately in the way.

Disney's A Christmas Carol is all CGI (and 3D) and will be released in November 2009. A pair of Amtrak P42s were decorated as (in essence) big movie posters! Scrooge looks grumpily off the side of AMTK 71, stopped at Union Station.

To advertise for Disney's new take on a classic - A Christmas Carol - they are sending a special train across the country over the next five months! The train is leasing a pair of Amtrak P42s (AMTK 157 and AMTK 71) are being leased and have been decorated accordingly. Here is the side of AMTK 157.

In honor of the Colorado Rockies, there were quite a few purple-ish colored fireworks being set off for the post-game fireworks show. Meanwhile, the Grand Luxe Rail Express sits on Track Two, awaiting a departure westbound in roughly 36 hours.

Even though the Rockies lost to the Diamondbacks (4-2), ending an 11 game winning streak, fans still get to enjoy fireworks after the game. It just so happens that the Grand Luxe Rail Express is at Union Station underneath a quickly rising full moon.
