This manifest between North Yard, CO and Grand Junction, CO (and back) is the only regularly scheduled UP manifest that runs on the Moffat. This ES44C4 is a "Tier 4 Credit" locomotive. After the Tier 4 emissions standards went in to effect, railroads had some carbon credits built up and could use those as credit again Tier 3 locomotives. The leading unit has fallen victim to some pretty severe tagging (graffiti), suggesting that there is a good chance this unit has spent quite a bit of time in some place like LA or Houston. The train was blocked in to a second of about 25 open hoppers loaded with coal and about 25 covered hoppers at the back. UP's Moffat Tunnel Sub cuts through the middle of Arvada neighborhoods, paralleling Oberon Road in this particular shot. The Rockies that the train just conquered rise high on the horizon. The Rocky Mountaineer is always a welcome sight as it breaks up a lot of the monotony that is typically seen on the Moffat. In the background toward the ride side of the frame, you can see a CVS Pharmacy and gas station, either of which were there two years ago. Development in western Arvada continues to explode! AMTK 203 is painted in a special "Operation Lifesaver" scheme, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the program. Amtrak unveiled the paint scheme about a year ago, in January 2022. BNSF's yard has requested that, instead of running down to Prospect Jct on UP's main, the train will instead cross over at Utah Junction from UP's main to the BNSF main.
