UP 1989 gets away from its captive night service on the Joint Line and heads west on the MNYRO! One of these days, it might even appear on the point....or maybe that's just wishful thinking.

After completing their work at Chem Spur, the West Local has no cars to take west to Rocky. However, the light power will head up there to switch some hoppers around on the Rocky Spur.

Can't go wrong with that light package! True, the MARS light is missing, but the class lights are still in place. The brakeman heads toward the derail to realign it after the light power is back on the main.

After completing their switching, the West Local is coming back down off the Chem Spur to join up with the mainline. The rainy day was helpful in brining out the surrounding colors!

After completing the spotting of cars at Mesa Oil, the West Local - now consisting of light power - heads back toward the main. You can really see the grade on the spur, which the power is starting to descend down.

The West Local backs up on Chem Spur, spotting some cars at Mesa Oil. I took this shot to show the distance between the spur and the facility in the distance.

The West Local (formerly the Rocky Local) switches tank cars on Chem Spur at Mesa Oil. I've wanted to try to catch the local here for nearly ten years, so I was happy to finally get my day. Great power to boot.

While Union Pacific purchased over 1,000 SD70Ms, Canadian National ordered the unit with a minor variation. This is an SD70I, which is like the SD70M, but with an EMD WhisperCab. Only 26 units were produced and all went to Canadian National. Not a bad catch for the middle of Colorado!

This shot really angered me. Why? About 90 seconds before the train showed up, this who spot was covered in glorious afternoon light! Then, a big fat cloud! Oh well...this is BNSF's Denver-Provo manifest headed west. Note the grade crossing sign along the side of the track: "X/QZ" -- The "QZ" represents "Quite Zone". Trains do not use their horns at Kipling.

You gotta love that in 2009, you can still get a Rio Grande lettered engine crossing over a Rio Grande lettered bridge! UP 1989 is a mid-train swing helper on an eastbound coal load crossing over Indiana Street.

Not only was this my final shot of the Ski Train for the 2008-2009 Winter Season, but as it turns out, this was my last shot of the Ansco Ski Train ever! The trip the next day would prove to be the last ever for the Ski Train under Phil Anschutz.

A pair of AC4400CWs push on the tail end of this coal empty as it works its way through Little Ten Curve at the west end of Rocky. Clouds peak over the mountains in the distance and check out the plains!

A little help from BNSF! This Public Service coal empty, which is headed for the Energy Mine on the Craig Branch, has five units on the point, including a BNSF ES44AC.

A look up at the DPU on an eastbound coal load as seen from knee-deep in a snow drift! Nice to see the American flag on this unit is relatively clean.

After the Spring Blizzard from earlier in the week, some pretty descent snow drifts formed in places along the tracks. An eastbound coal load passes drifts that are about three feet deep at this point on either side of the tracks.
