The number 1943 was chosen because, in that year, a B-17 was christened "The Spirit of Union Pacific" and flew in 571st Bomber Squadron. Literally 10 minutes prior to the sun setting, this manifest passed by heading east. An hour earlier, Cheyenne was pummeled by a torrential downpour that included nickel-to-quarter sized hail. That, however, result in the formation of this fantastic pond, allowing for a nice capture of an SD70ACe and an SD70M, both sporting the American flag. Each Spring, the cars are moved to their summer base in Council Bluffs, IA. This year, the 20 car train had the CNW Heritage Unit (UP 1995) on the point as it made its journey.
