Running two hours late, an extremely dirty AMTK 95 leads the westbound California Zephyr into Denver. On this day, the Zephyr is running with only seven Superliners instead of eight, as demand is often down some in the winter months.

The tail end of the westbound California Zephyr is approaching diamond (with UP) at Sand Creek - note the clear signal to the right of amtrak in the distance. The tracks pass right through the middle of the oil refinery in Commerce City. Amtrak here is running about 12 1/2 hours late.

Severe weather in Iowa and Nebraska had a serious impact on the westbound California Zephyr! Between Osceola, IA and Creston, IA (a distance of 33 miles), the train lost five hours. Between Creston and Fort Morgan, CO, the train lost another six hours. All said, it was over 12 hours late getting into Denver. Here, the train is approaching Sand Creek at 7:15pm.

The QCHIDEN typically runs twice a week from Chicago to Denver, arriving in Denver in the afternoon (when all goes according to plan). Here, the train is on the approach to Sand Creek with a nice set of power on the point. An SD75I in Warbonnet on an SD70MAC in Green and Cream lead the train. The train will ultimately make its way to Rennicks where the double stacks can be unloaded.
