On the western outskirts of Oakley, just east of the siding of Hackberry, a local heads toward the end of its limit at Oakley. There, it will tie down and the crew will be taken back to Salina (their home terminal).

The Union Pacific depot in Oakley might be one of the ugliest depots (in my opinion) that I've ever seen! It looks kind of like a large cinder brick! UP 4014 and the 250th special roll by on the way west toward Sharon Springs.

On the main at Oakley, UP 4014 continues west at track speed. Oakley has a population of 2,046 (as of the 2020 census), and is the location where I-70 heads north, breaking away from the tracks. The rest of the way to Sharon Springs, traffic will be on US-40.
