The westbound Rocky Mountaineer is passing by the Grand Valley Diversion Dam, also referred to as the Cameo Diversion Dam. The dam was built in 1916 and was the first dam in the United States to use roller gates to control water flow. The dam is used to control water flow for crops.

There is a canyon between Palisade, CO and De Beque, CO that is difficult to shoot in. That made me determined to find a place to stop and shoot! A quick hike up from the highway yielded this result of the Zephyr on the main at the siding of Tunnel.

The MNYPV has a fresh crew onboard as it departs west out of Bond. After crossing the Colorado River on the bridge in the foreground, the train will enter the 647 foot-long Yarmony Tunnel. This is the beginning of the Dotsero Cutoff and the east end of the Glenwood Springs Subdivision.
