The Zephyr emerges from the 100-foot-long Tunnel 38 as seen from "Inspiration Point". Just around the bend, the Zephyr has a clear signal at the east switch of Azure.

At the west end of Gore Canyon, the Zephyr approaches the relatively short Tunnel 38 above the Colorado River. I was actually quite lucky to get this shot. The Zephyr had a good lead on me at Kremmling as I headed for Trough Road to get here to Inspiration Point. Fortunately (for me), a slide fence had been activated in Gore Canyon. That slowed the Zephyr down enough for me to get ahead.

West of Kremmling, the tracks head directly through Gore Canyon, One of the more amazing canyons to behold, it is only accessible by rail (or raft...not advisable in January!). If you are in a car, you have to drive around the canyon on Grand County 1 (Trough Road). The roads meets back up with the tracks on the west side of Gore Canyon, albeit several hundred feet above. This spot is known as "Inspiration Point", and it isn't hard to see why! A westbound coal empty snakes through the canyon and through Tunnel 38, approach the east switch of Azure.
