The siding of Allen is 14,250 feet long. In the 1980s, Rio Grande attempted to add a second main track through Glenwood Canyon. However, the difficulty in engineering and the expense involved prevented the project from being completed. The result of the project was a (near) three mile long siding.

A loaded coal train approaches the siding of Range. The train will have to stop on the mainline for about two hours to effect repairs on the last unit on the back of the coal train.
