CTC was not working at east Sagers when the MNYRO arrived. The train had to be flagged past the red signal, and the conductor had to put the switch into hand-throw while the lead unit passes over the switch. Once the lead unit is in the OS, the conductor will put the switch back in power and re-board the SD70M.

Although it is well past sunrise, the clouds in the east are still obscuring direct sunlight from the MNYRO. The North Yard to Roper manifest has just come over the top of Thompson Hill and is approaching the east switch of Thompson siding.

Four Phase-II SD70M's are pulling hard (the B40-8 is shut down) on the eastbound MRONY-11 just east of Brendel. Although clouds covered the sky early that morning, they had vanished from the desert by 10am, when this picture was taken.

From the Westwater exit of I-70 (exit 225 in eastern Utah) take you down a well-maintained dirt road 7.5 miles to the tracks and the Colorado River. Companies that offer rafting tours through Ruby Canyon go down to Westwater to pick up rafters that have come downstream through the Canyon. Amtrak 6 is just about to pass that location, about 2000 feet west of the west switch of Westwater.
