At the west end of Cliff, an eastbound coal load went into emergency and stopped right on the switch. The train had problems with the first (of three) swing units that took about three hours to correct!

At the east end of Cliff, the last DPU unit on a westbound coal train does a nice job catching the morning light. This westbound would untimately be tied down while waiting for an eastbound coal load in emergency just west of Cliff.

Just east of Cliff, this coal load is back on the move after a three hour delay due to being stuck in emergency. The crew had to make several trips back and forth between the head end and the swing helpers to get the problem resolved. Evidence of the end of summer is easy to see in the shot!

From high above the tracks (east of Cliff), we look down on one of the very few remaining unpatched Espee AC4400CW's, SP 144. The unit was the second unit on the head end of an eastbound coal train.

After a two hour delay due to a broken coal train (which the crew did a fine job getting back into working order as quickly as they could), Amtrak 5 hustles west through the canyon between Rollins and Tolland. Fall colors are nearing their peak at this altitude.

It's been nearly two years now since the bridge just east of Tolland was rebuilt, and this is still and fantastic shot. A few clouds enter the sky; a sign of the oncoming afternoon storms.

A nice looking C44AC-CTE leads a coal empty past trees that are nearing their fall color peaks. Another week to 10 days for some of them, while others are right at their peak. The train is a few hundred feet away from the east portal of the Moffat Tunnel.

On the last official day of summer, the aspen trees above 9,000 feet - at the east portal of the Moffat Tunnel - are at their absolutely peak as far as their fall colors go. The power here is the end DPU power on a westbound coal empty plunging into the Moffat Tunnel.

About 25 seconds after I snapped this picture, the clouds (of course) parted and a wonderful ray of sun splashed all over this spot. However, even without the light, this ES44AC looks pretty good on the point of the MNYPV. Following the new GEVO is an SD70ACe and an AC6000CW...an impressive power lineup.
