Have you ever wondered what happens when you run through a derail? Take a close look at the first axle on this SD40-2. Good to know the derail works just as it should.

A crew is in the process of re-railing the first axle on this SD40-2. They are using a re-railer to get the axle back "on track" - pardon the pun.

After about 45 minutes of work, the crew was able to re-rail this SD40-2. After running through a derail, the lead axle derailed and the crew worked diligently to get it re-railed.

The HLAUDEN heads south on the main (lower track) while the MDENLAU patiently waits on the siding (upper track). The HLAUDEN typically has a single unit DPU's on the rear of the train and today is no exception. A UP SD70ACe makes a rear appearance on the Front Range Sub.

The HDENLAU rolls slowly down the siding at Broomfield toward Burns Junctions and the north switch of Broomfield. A rare visitor - a UP SD70ACe - makes an appearance on the train.

The first day of March in 2008 was a really beautiful one. Temperatures were in the 70's; near-record highs. The HDENLAU is passing Burns Junction at the north end of Broomfield. The mainline and the siding at Broomfield were once two separate mainlines owned by two different railroads. A short section of the track built by the Denver, Western and Pacific Railway still exists between Burns Junction and Lafayette.

After a long trip down the Front Range Sub, the HLAUDEN is nearly at its destination in Denver. Rennicks is BNSF's intermodal hub in Denver, seen in the background. The track only half visible on the left side of the picture (at the bottom) is UP's mainline. The track to the right of that is BNSF's mainline.

Yard Shots Union Pacific, Rio Grande
It's been awhile since I've seen the Rio Grande Heritage Unit in daylight! Even though it is only sitting in the yard, I decided to go ahead and add a shot. The unit is continuing to run nights on the MNYPU/MPUNY between Denver and Pueblo.
