Very turbulent weather across Colorado, including (unfortunately) a deadly tornado in the Greeley area, led to some interesting cloud patterns. A former Chicago & North Western AC4400CW (ex-CNW 8804) leads a westbound coal empty west of Leyden.

Hey, I do believe there is a Zebra in that pumpkin patch! A very rare visitor to Colorado to be sure, CN 2417 is the sixth of seven units on this BNSF trackage rights train. The unit is a C40-8M, a "cowl" unit produced by GE for Canadian National specifically.

Rather rough lighting makes this shot a bit rough to see. A 6,000 foot eastbound BNSF manifest approaches Leyden with seven units on the point, including a Canadian National C40-8M.

Of all the units that I may have guessed I'd shoot crossing over this old Grande bridge of Indiana Avenue, a Canadian National C40-8M cowl unit was *not* one of the ones that would have come to mind! Yet, here it is, the sixth unit on an eastbound BNSF manifest.
