For the past month or so, Union Pacific has been running a lot of passenger trains around its system. Various Officer's Specials and Engineering Specials. One such special was headed west out of Denver on the Moffat, just west of Leyden here.

An up close and personal look at a relatively new ES44AC leading a UP Special west near Leyden. In fact, you can see the west switch of Leyden in the distance just to the left of the unit.

Ahh, if only Amtrak had a car like this! I'd hang out in it all day long. Union Pacific's observation car Idaho not only has a great picture window, but it is fully equipped with satellite link up. Here, it is brining up the rear of a UP special, just west of Leyden.

One thing you have to admit...Union Pacific knows how to do passenger trains! New, clean-looking power on a sharp looking set of passenger cars. A UP Officer's Special with a 14-month-old ES44AC is about to duck into Tunnel One.

Three units punching out about 13,000 horsepower pull on a 25-car train (consisting mostly of sand) approaching Tunnel One. The train is headed for the Craig Branch; it'll run from Bond up to Phippsburg. From there, the P-Burg Local will take the sand to Craig, CO.
