CSX's Nahunta Subdivision north of Jacksonville, FL has two main tracks. Here, both are being well utilized as the northbound in this shot meets a southbound that is visible off in the distance.

At Folkston Junction in Folkston, GA, two sets of CSX main tracks converge on the journey south toward Jacksonville. Here, a pair of AC4400CW's leads this coal train through the junction heading for a Florida power plant.

In Callahan, FL, this southbound CSX coal load is crossing over from Main One to Main Two. Main One has track work on it going on and all trains in both directions are using Main Two.

Wouldn't you know...literally 15 cars after the head end passes, the clouds cleared and this spot was bathed in fantastic light. Oh well, the overpass in Callahan, FL is still a wonderful place to watch the action!

Helm Leasing acquired some units from BNSF. I found these SD40-2's sitting on a rip track on the east side of the yard. I assume they are being leased to Florida East Coast.

Does this paint scheme look a little bit familiar? I'm guessing yes! Florida East Coast acquired 16 SD40-2's from Union Pacific. They took "Union Pacific" off the long hood and the shield off the nose and replaced them with "Florida East Coast" and their logo, respectively. Here, one such SD40-2 is being moved around by hostelers in Bowden Yard.

Just like Rio Grande was so many years ago, Florida East Coast is an all-EMD operation. Here in Bowden Yard it is a see of spartan cabs as hostlers move power around.

Although it is a relatively small railroad with about 90 units on its roster, Florida East Coast recently picked up eight SD70M-2's fresh from EMD. Four of them have a blue and yellow scheme and four of them have a red, white and blue. Here, one of each leads Train #107, still assembling in Bowden Yard.

A pair of GP40-2's working on switching in Bowden Yard. Most of Florida East Coast's power does not have dynamic brakes. Which of course makes sense. The railroad has little change in elevation and if there are dynamic brakes, its just something else that needs to be maintained.

Yeah, this definitely isn't anywhere near my best shot ever. But since this is the first time I've ever shot in Florida, I decided to include it. I waited 90 minutes for this Florida East Coast intermodal train (Train #107) to depart. It finally left Bowden Yard at 5:45pm, well after the sun had set. So, this ISO 1600 shot was the best I could come away with.

Train #107 departs from Bowden Yard off the east track at Sunbeam Road. It is 5:45pm and there is only about 10 minutes of light left in the sky.
