Four years ago, the ES44C4 was a brand new model, specifically developed by GE for BNSF. Today, BNSF has over 1,100 copies on the roster. The unit only has four traction motors. The middle axles on each truck are "dummies", making the unit an A1A-A1A unit. While BNSF management seems to love the unit, I've heard that many engineers do not care for it (due to issues with traction and loading).

Got snow? The westbound Zephyr knocks down a clear signal at east Leyden and kicks up a lot of the white stuff amid a fairly heavy morning blizzard. Note the Lounge Car running directly behind the baggage car. It has been rumored this is being done to reduce the amount of diesel fumes that make it in to the coach cars.

The Zephyr, running right on time in the snow, meets an eastbound with a somewhat rare visitor. KCS SD70MAC #3907 led BNSF's Provo, UT to Denver, CO trackage rights manifest over the Moffat.

The westbound Zephyr had a pair of Iowa Pacific (private) passenger cars along for the ride on this morning. Warm passengers get a great view of a morning blizzard.

I sure am envious of the passengers on board this particular Iowa Pacific passenger car! No doubt a great views out the sides, but the view forward or backwards from the dome up top must be truly spectacular.

It isn't too often that a Kansas City Southern unit shows up on the Moffat, let alone on the point. However, on this (very snowy) Wednesday morning, a gray KCS SD70MAC leads a BNSF manifest east out of Leyden toward Denver.

On a very chilly January morning, a KCS-led BNSF (trackage rights) manifest approaches the grade crossing at Simms Street in Arvada. There was no horn to be heard at this moment, as the grade crossing at Simms Street has been converted to a "quiet zone", to keep Arvada a little quieter.

A quick roster shot of a gray Kansas City Southern SD70MAC. It is currently on lease to BNSF and led BNSF's Provo, UT to Denver, CO manifest over the former Rio Grande. From this point, it will have a straight shot the rest of the way in to the yard.
