30 years ago, there were numerous tracks leading in to and out of Union Station, including multiple dwarf signals. 20 years ago, those dwarf signals were gone, as were many of the tracks. Now, in 2015, many of the tracks have been added back in and dwarf signals are popping up again! This scene almost looks like it could pass for a scene from Chicago or the Northeast Corridor. Power for the Zephyr is back down Track 4 to hook on to the Zephyr.

A close up look at the "Saluting Our Veterans" decal on the side of AMTK 42. I was really happy when I discovered that Amtrak would be using this unit on the two day, special run of the Ski Train.

A scene from above, looking away from Union Station between Tracks 4 and 5. To the right is the westbound California Zephyr making its scheduled station stop. To the left is a set of seven Superliners that will be used on two Amtrak-sponsored special runs of the Ski Train. The train is commemorating the 75th Anniversary of Winter Park.

A sight not often to be repeated! Two sets of Superliners on two separate tracks at Union Station. On Track 4 (closer to the station), the westbound California Zephyr waits for passengers to load before departing west. On Track 5 (further from the station), equipment for the (special runs) of the Ski Train sits, ready to go.

Tracks 5 and 6 are full at Train Hall at Denver Union Station. Note the Ice House in the background. Nearly every other structure visible in this shot was constructed within the last 2-5 years. One exception would be Coors Field, just visible in the distance, which is now 20 years old.

This sharp looking ES44AC was one of three mid-train swing helpers on a coal train sitting in the siding at Leyden. The train is waiting for a westbound, which is on its way out of Denver.

A pair of SD70Ms lead what appears to be a westbound rock train (or perhaps some other type of Maintenance of Way train) on the main at Leyden. Seeing as SD70Ms are my personal favorite engine since the SD40-2, I always enjoy coming across them on the Moffat.

All three mid-train swing helpers on this eastbound coal load, while GE, happen to all be different models. UP 7051 is a C44/60AC, UP 7470 is an ES44AC (which UP designates as a C45ACCTE), and UP 6382 is an AC4400CW. Once arriving in Denver, all three units will be set out prior to the coal train continuing east on the KP Line.

Although you wouldn't necessarily know it at first glance, this unit spent about eight years wearing pure Scarlet and Gray! It was delivered in July 1995 as SP 336. Eight years later, on November 25, 2003, it was changed to UP 6382.
