Today's Denver-Provo has a bit of a surprise visitor as the first of two DPUs. A Kansas City Southern ES44AC is currently being power shared with BNSF, joined with a BNSF SD70ACe.

A pair of DPUs bring up the tail end of the Denver-Provo as it rolls by an almost completely empty yard in Glenwood Springs late in the afternoon.

The entire Denver-Provo is condensed down thanks to the help of a 300mm lense! The train has a clear signal down the main at Lacy, a few miles west of Rifle. In fact, the houses seen in the distance are in Rifle.

Just west of Lacy, an ES44AC, ET44C4, and ES44DC lead the Denver-Provo west. These three units make for a rather unique trio for the journey.

The Denver-Provo is moving at track speed as it passes by a clear signal at the east switch of Grand Valley. Other than taking the siding to meet Amtrak at Allen (near the east end of Glenwood Canyon), the train has not had to stop since leaving Denver! Indeed, the Zephyr is the only train it has even met. And it will prove to be the only train is meets on the entire journey from Denver to Grand Junction. The crew went on duty at 8:15am in Denver and will easily make it to Grand Junction within the 12 hour limit.

Before starting the 200 mile journey back home, I stuck around at Grand Valley for one last look as KCS 4742 and BNSF 8597 as they bring up the rear of the Denver-Provo. Within 90 minutes or so, the train will reach Grand Junction for a crew change and some switching of cars before continuing on toward Provo.
