An interesting pair of units - an SD70ACe-T4 and an SD70M - lead an eastbound coal load amid a beautiful landscape between the sidings of Dos and Lacy. The train will be taking the siding at Lacy to allow the eastbound Zephyr to pass by without delay. A great way to kick off 2021!

The eastbound Zephyr, with seven Superliners in tow, knocks down a clear signal at the east end of Lacy. For the past few months, the Zephyr has generally been running without a baggage car, and New Year's Day 2021 is no exception.

UP's 100 SD70ACe-T4s are not seen particularly often in Colorado, and even less frequently on coal trains. On December 30, however, UP 3000 led a westbound train from Denver to Grand Junction. The power was wyed in Grand Junction and UP 3000, along with an SD70M, was added to the point of an eastbound coal load! The duo, along with the standard DPU compliment in the middle and end of the train, made the trip back east on New Year's Day 2021, see here leaving the siding at Lacy after the eastbound Zephyr ran around the train.

An eastbound UP coal load crosses underneath I-70 and follows along the Colorado River at the east end of Chacra. If you look close, you can see empty coal hoppers in the siding at Chacra. These hoppers have been sitting in the siding here for at least 6-8 months, and possibly longer!

An SD70ACe-T4 and an SD70M lead a loaded coal train across the Colorado River alongside I-70 just east of Chacra. The train will roll through Glenwood and follow the eastbound Zephyr through Glenwood Canyon.

A single SD70ACe brings up the tail end of an eastbound coal load at the east end of Chacra. The scenery heading east toward Glenwood (and Glenwood Canyon) is looking pretty good!
