Say hello to the latest specially painted Union Pacific unit. UP 1979 is an SD70M painted in the "We Are ONE" scheme. UP created the unit as a unifying unit amongst UP employees. It highlights all of the Employee Resource Groups UP has. The first such group was the Black Employees Network (called "BEN"). That group was created in 1979, hence the number choice for the unit.

A top-down view of UP's "We Are ONE" unit, UP 1979. I was a little surprised to find the multi-colored design that was added to the top of the long hood. Looks pretty good!

Multiple armor yellow units provide the backdrop at North Yard for UP 1979. UP painted this SD70M in a special scheme referred to as the "We Are ONE" scheme. The scheme includes the nine Employee Resource Groups that Union Pacific offers for its employees. The first such group, the Black Employee Network (or BEN) was created in 1979, indicating the reason for the number of the unit.

The nose of UP 1979 is definitely rather creative! Behind UP's shield and wings is an orange and yellow heart, with the pink and green bands wrapping around the base from the sides of the nose. Overall, a pretty creative design to be sure! The unit is on display here for UP employees in Denver, not too far from the fuel and sand racks.

UP set ups. pretty good viewing area for the "We Are ONE" unit, UP 1979 here at North Yard in Denver. A very large tent with chairs was set up, offering some shade. Employees are welcome to come over and check out the unit when they have a break or at the start or end of their shift. Or even if they are off duty and just want to make the haul down to the yard to check it out.

A nice, elevated look at UP 1979 and the viewing area set up by UP for its employees at North Yard. Behind the unit, we find only a handful of units around the fueling and sanding racks. The yard itself looks to be a bit on the empty side. However, it is encouraging to see an empty coal train sitting on yard track 1!

There are two yards at the Coors Brewery in Golden. Inbound trains head to one yard or the other at Terrill Jct. Today's train is heading for the south yard, so it took a left turn at Terrill Jct and paralleled Eldridge Road before crossing over CO-58.

Just outside of the lower (south) yard at Coors, there is a grain elevator which, to the best of my knowledge, is not in operation. The Sunday afternoon Beer Run crosses over Clear Creek as it makes creeps west. It will soon stop to align a derail and a few switches before entering yard track 3.

BNSF's Beer Run has nearly completed the roughly 15 mile journey from BNSF's yard in Denver to the yard in Golden. The train is passing underneath McIntyre Street alongside Clear Creek.

A well-blocked Beer Run enters yard track 3 in the lower (south) yard at Coors on a Sunday afternoon. The reference to the train being "well-blocked" means that there are groups of cars meant to be together and will likely remain together for their duration here at Coors. Today's train also has a pair of spartan cab unit that will be used on the Golden local for the next week. The local runs east out of the upper yard Monday through Friday.

BNSF 2949 is a GP39-2 that has undergone a bit of modifications, particularly around the cab! The number boards above the cab have been brought forward and an air conditioner, among other things, has been added to the roof.

One of the most reliable, well-built units in history is, without question, EMD SD40-2. Nearly 50 years after its original build date, BNSF 1660 is still in service and working daily. Running a local may not be as prestigious as train it once ran, but it is great so many of this classic EMD units are still on the rails.

The BNSF Beer Run has pulled all the way through track 3 in the yard. It is going to need to double over the front half of the train on track 4. West 37th Drive runs through the middle of the Coors compound, seen here alongside the train. Clear Creek is on the opposite side of the train.
