The train just came off the Limon Sub and turned north toward the Greeley Sub (which it will depart on come Tuesday). Work to drop I-70 in to a trench is about 50% complete. Cars now in the trench are likely oblivious to the largest steam engine in US history above them! These units, often known as Gensets, were built by National Railway Equipment. They have three Cummins diesel engines in them and operate with reduced emissions. Due to that, these units are most commonly found (when active) in California. Based on the aftermarket decorations, I would say that's where these units came from as well! The steam crew used it to split up the passengers cars and put UP 1989 and UP 4014 nose-to-nose in preparation for display the next day. UP 4014, UP 4015, and three other cars will soon back down and then pull up in front of UP 1989, putting UP 1989 and UP 4014 nose-to-nose for display on Labor Day.
