In the distance, you can see another eastbound pulling through the siding. The second unit from this train on Main 2 will be donated to the train in the siding as another one of its units failed. This view of the 4-8-8-4 leading a special west of Hanna helps show its overall size. Including the tender, the unit is 132 feet long. The Big Boy and tender combine weight right around 1.2 million pounds (600 tons). The tender holds close to 25,000 gallons of water and consumes as much as 12,000 gallons of water per hour. Five miles east of here, at Walcott, the train crossed over from Main 1 to Main 2. There also happens to be a 10 MPH slow order across the bridge, so the train is move slow through the scene. In those days, the engines went to the water. In 2024, since there is currently only one steam engine running on UP, the water is brought to the engine.
