NS 7550 is the sole unit remaining on this eastbound covered hopper train after the crew took the lead two units to the east end of the siding. In the distance, you can see another eastbound pulling through the siding. The second unit from this train on Main 2 will be donated to the train in the siding as another one of its units failed.

UP 4014 pulls through a cut on Main 1. The train made a mechanical stop several miles back at Medicine Bow, allowing me to get ahead of it.

The overall size of a UP Big Boy is truly impressive to behold. This view of the 4-8-8-4 leading a special west of Hanna helps show its overall size. Including the tender, the unit is 132 feet long. The Big Boy and tender combine weight right around 1.2 million pounds (600 tons). The tender holds close to 25,000 gallons of water and consumes as much as 12,000 gallons of water per hour.

UP 4014 and train cross over the North Platte River at Fort Steele, right around 14 miles east of Rawlins, WY. Five miles east of here, at Walcott, the train crossed over from Main 1 to Main 2. There also happens to be a 10 MPH slow order across the bridge, so the train is move slow through the scene.

70 years ago, there were water towers all along the mainline to refill the tenders. In those days, the engines went to the water. In 2024, since there is currently only one steam engine running on UP, the water is brought to the engine.

The last shot of the day comes at Tie Siding, just west of the Hermosa Tunnel. Numerous thunderstorms have been rolling through the area and, indeed, it is raining right now as this eastbound passes under the signal bridge at Hermosa Road.
