At the north end of Huntsman, BNSF picks up a covered hopper from the shortline railroad Sidney and Lowe. The railroad is only 12 miles long and has a pair of GP10s for power.

This northbound BNSF coal empty is headed for the Antelope Mine in the Powder River Basin in Wyoming. The train came up the Joint Line in Colorado, then the Brush sub, and now it is headed north on the Angora Sub toward Bridgeport, NE.

A few miles south of the tiny town of Padroni, CO, BNSF's Edgemont, SD to Denver, CO manifest is rolling toward Sterling. This spot had been bathed in sunlight until five minute before the train showed up (naturally). So, black and white seemed like the better choice for the shot.

I love the effect a 300mm telephoto lens creates when looking down the tracks over rolling landscape. Five miles off in the distance, BNSF's Edgemont, SD to Denver, CO manifest makes its way south toward Sterling.
