The westbound Beer Run is stopped at Terrel Jct, waiting for clearance to enter in to the lower yard at Golden. About 25 of the 50 or so on the train will be taken down to the lower yard. The remaining cars will sit on the track here (east of Terrel Jct) until they can be taken to the upper yard.

The Beer Run approach the switch at Terrill Jct. There are two separate yards in Golden, the "lower yard" and the "upper yard". This switch here at Terrill Jct determines which of the two yards trains will enter. The switch is currently lined for the upper yard, but the crew will throw the switch to enter the lower yard.

As the westbound Been Run makes its way on the Golden Sub through Arvada, an RTD Gold Line commuter train overtakes the freight on its (dedicated) single track mainline.

An SD70ACe and an SD70MAC lead two SD40-2s and train on the Beer Run, heading to Golden. The two SD40-2s will be used as power on the "Golden Switch", which runs six days a week out of the (upper) Golden Yard.

I remember, as a kid, seeing SDP40s on the Beer Run that ran between Denver and Golden. Burlington Northern had six SDP40s that it inherited from Great Northern, and they seemed to spend a lot of time in Denver. Fast-forward about forty years, and an SD70ACe and an SD70MAC are the power on the train on this December afternoon, just minutes after sunset.

Just south of Terrill Jct, BNSF's "Beer Run" is stopped, waiting for permission to enter in to the Lower Yard at Coors. The train is stopped just north of 44th Avenue so as not to block any crossing.

The westbound "Beer Run" is slowly headed west on the Golden Sub on the south edge of Arvada. BNSF does quite a bit of business with customers along the line, as you can see several branches with cars on them to the right. To the left is RTD (the Regional Transportation District's) G-Line commuter rail, which was built in the corridor parallel to BNSF's Golden Sub. In the distance, you can see Arvada's classic water tower.

The BNSF Beer Run has pulled all the way through track 3 in the yard. It is going to need to double over the front half of the train on track 4. West 37th Drive runs through the middle of the Coors compound, seen here alongside the train. Clear Creek is on the opposite side of the train.

One of the most reliable, well-built units in history is, without question, EMD SD40-2. Nearly 50 years after its original build date, BNSF 1660 is still in service and working daily. Running a local may not be as prestigious as train it once ran, but it is great so many of this classic EMD units are still on the rails.

BNSF 2949 is a GP39-2 that has undergone a bit of modifications, particularly around the cab! The number boards above the cab have been brought forward and an air conditioner, among other things, has been added to the roof.

A well-blocked Beer Run enters yard track 3 in the lower (south) yard at Coors on a Sunday afternoon. The reference to the train being "well-blocked" means that there are groups of cars meant to be together and will likely remain together for their duration here at Coors. Today's train also has a pair of spartan cab unit that will be used on the Golden local for the next week. The local runs east out of the upper yard Monday through Friday.

Just outside of the lower (south) yard at Coors, there is a grain elevator which, to the best of my knowledge, is not in operation. The Sunday afternoon Beer Run crosses over Clear Creek as it makes creeps west. It will soon stop to align a derail and a few switches before entering yard track 3.

There are two yards at the Coors Brewery in Golden. Inbound trains head to one yard or the other at Terrill Jct. Today's train is heading for the south yard, so it took a left turn at Terrill Jct and paralleled Eldridge Road before crossing over CO-58.
